We have the most comprehensive current river conditions web page in Virginia (updated daily!) and use ISDN technology to access all of our weather and river information every day. Of course, even with this information it is still possible to get caught in the old thunderstorm routine, so be aware of changing weather conditions while on-river.

Reservations are strongly recommended every day and especially for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when we do get completely booked at times.

In order to choose the best canoe livery for your family or group it is best to visit the livery itself and see how it operates. Websites and talk can be flashy and there are those who will tell you they are the best at everything. So come for a visit and we will be happy to show you the "real deal"! Other outfitters may use islands and PUBLIC lands for their overnight camping trips. Camping on islands can be hazardous due to fluctuating water levels and weather conditions. James River Runners, LLC provides your camping area within our PRIVATE riverside lands that we operate and maintain so you don't have to mingle with the general public or worry about your ability to access the land.
In order to maintain good sanitation procedures which protect our precious natural environment, we provide clean porta potties at both our base camp at Hatton Ferry and our wilderness camp at Howardsville (Ja-Rock Rivers). Howardsville is the JRR put in spot for the 9 mile excursion, is a completely private boat ramp, and is utilized as the camping area on our overnight canoe trip.

We spare no expense in providing top of the line Old Town Camper model ABS canoes (Old Town promotes these canoes as their most versatile, stable, and durable family-oriented canoe). Our rental products include heavy duty Carlisle paddles with STM blades, hypalon material rafts, rotomold sit on top kayaks, vest type lIl life preservers for safety and comfort, and thick walled inner tubes. And with 6 well maintained buses, 3 vans, and other assorted trucks and transport trailers you can be assured that we can offer the best and most reliable service to small or very large groups.
